How it all started

Hello, Hola everyone!
My name is Alejandra, and I’ve always been fascinated by entrepreneurship.

Recently, I decided to take the plunge and start my own (small) business, with dreams and hopes of scaling it up in the future (more on that to come!).

For now, let me introduce my venture: The Genie Bag ✨

The idea began with my lifestyle- always on the move, whether travelling, studying, working, or walking the dogs. I hated carrying a bag because it always seemed to get in the way. Like many women, I’d end up overfilling it with items I didn’t really need.
I found myself drawn to tiny bags, perfect for carrying just the essentials-the bare minimum like my phone, keys, and cards. At the same time, I loved seeking out compact, useful items to fit into my small bag for those “just in case” moments.

Fast forward to last year (2023), when I was solo travelling around Italy. I began packing various items for those exact “just in case” moments. What started as a small clear plastic bag, originally designed to hold a toothbrush and toothpaste, quickly evolved to include items for all occasions- ranging from basic first aid (plasters) to a mini sewing kit. It became stuffed and gradually fuller over time.

This little bag became my go-to for all occasions. It fitted into every bag I owned, giving me peace of mind knowing I had everything I or anyone else might need.
Whilst in Rome I attended an event and ran into a young woman, visibly distressed, in the restroom. The zip on her dress had ripped, leaving her unable to close it. With no jacket to cover herself, she was panicking and asking for help.
Reaching into my bag, I offered to sew her into the dress, and she gratefully agreed.
That small act of kindness inspired me. I realised I could create a kit that contained everything one might need, all while keeping it compact and accessible- A bag or kit that could truly do it all…like a genie, granting exactly what was needed at the moment.
